Caring for destination
This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
It aims to contribute to the local economy.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
Big Lyna Villa is a small locally owned and managed guesthouse that actively employs local people, uses locally produced food and sources the majority of its supplies locally. Hence, Big Lyna Villa directly supports other local businesses and has a positive knock-on effect on the local community.

Additionally, the local employees coming from poor families in the provinces receive a fair salary, free boarding as well as extra language classes.

For a real local shopping experience, get up before the sun breaks and ask one of the staff to come along to the local markets to buy fresh fruits and vegetables when it is really bussing.

Traveller Comments:
"The service was very kind."
Mr. haxaire c. - France on 30/03/2010
"It was always to hot in the room, also when the AC was running the whole day, it was still about 30C.
The choise of breakfast is very limited.
The english knowledgement of the staff was not very good. They did not offer any tours, or give any advice.
In summary the price for this Hotel is too high."
Mr. Peter M. - Germany on 23/04/2009
"Very pleasant stay.
The staff should make more effort to keep the room fixtures, in particular the bathroom, in good shape "
Mr. Ottar J. - Switzerland on 16/03/2008
"A very pleasant experience. I would thoroughly recommend their regular tut-tut driver Sith Ayab. He was so cheerful and considerate. You couldn't wish for anyone better."
Mr. Richard W. - United Kingdom on 20/02/2008
"an unforgettable wooden GH with a balcony full of flowers. very quiet location but only 7 minutes on foot to the bar street. All staff are very friendly and helpful. I am glad to recommend it to my friends."
Ms. QIU JU W. - China on 20/02/2008
"A good guesthouse, which is the money worth. Located a little bit away from the traveller scene; just right for us!"
Mr. Uwe B. - Germany on 18/02/2008
"A cambodian style guest house. "
Mr. Lucy B. on 18/02/2008
"Actually, we did not stay at Big Lyna Villa as they did not have our reservation. We called them from the airport, as we had arranged airport pick-up but even with the confirmation number, they couldn't help us. In the end we found another hotel - but we are very unsatisfied with the fact that our booking was not passed on to this establishment and will not use your services in the future."
Mrs. Ghislaine J. - Netherlands on 15/01/2008
"Friendly staff, central and quite location, medium english knowledge of the staff, big rooms"
Ms. Anke M. - Germany on 10/01/2008
"I loved my stay in Siem Reap, the hotel and your reservation service. It made staying here that little bit more confortable and easy. I was a woman travelling alone and I can really recommend this way of doing things.

Lovely guesthouse, too."
Mrs. Simone T. - Germany on 17/12/2007
"Staff made a very halfhearted impression. Additional the wonderful building must be redecorated, especially the bathroom."
Mr. Helmut W. - Germany on 16/12/2007
"The veranda at Big Lyna was nice and open, but our room was paneled in dark wood floor to ceiling, had one window that looked onto an alley, and very poor electric lights, which led to a depressing feeling after very long in the room. Loved the location near the river--very quiet--and only a 10-minute walk to "downtown." Very little English spoken there. All-in-all adequate, not great."
Ms. Kathy S. - United States on 03/12/2007
"Beautiful guesthouse at decent value; the rooms are gorgeous wood-panel places. We requested a free pick-up from teh pier, which they sent but we couldn't find among the crowd of eager tuk-tuk drivers (they didn't carry a sign) so map out where to go before hand in case you need to direct a driver there. Or else wait but its not a pleasant place to hang out with the hot sun and everyone hassling you. They were also very helpful with things like telephone calls, tuk tuk drivers to the temples, and arranging to see traditional aspara dance."

Ms. Xu H. on 07/05/2007
"The website description of the Big Lyna Villa made this guesthouse sound very approachable and friendly - instead I found it a bit formal, but certainly the staff tried to be helpful when approached, so perhaps it was just language difficulty that seemed to create the distance.

I arrived after 8pm, and asked if I could have a drink to take to my room, as there was a bar outside. I was given a coke, which was put on my bill, but when I paid on departure it was charged at a different rate than the list on the wall in my room.

The room I had on the ground floor was rather dark and the wall lighting was inefficient for reading, but there was a television for entertainment, and the air conditioning was effective if noisy."
Ms. Terry K. - United Kingdom on 20/04/2007
"Warming welcome. Only one problem: they were unable to book french speaking guide to Angkor, and the English of the one they found was very poor and his knwoledge about the temples was poor too."
Mr. Olivier Le G. - France on 17/04/2007
"Although the confirmation said the hotel would pick us up at the airport, nobody was there. After waiting for a long time, we finally took a taxi. Upon arrival at the hotel, they seemed not to know about our coming and first wanted to give us a non-aircon room. When we asked whether there was a service back to the airport, the answer was that the driver was sick and it was impossible. With the large choice of hotels/guesthouses in Siem Reap, it is much better to look elsewhere."

"Very friendly staff, can organise everything, very near to old market center but very quiet. We would recommend this small, but beautiful hotel to our friends."

"Upon arrival at Siem Reap Intl Airport, my 2 friends and I were greeted by a friendly driver, Mr So Tony, who took us to Big Lyna Villa is a big, comfortable van. As soon as we arrived, we were taken straight to our rooms, without even having to check-in first! This is certainly a first for me, and a very pleasant surprise. Immediately, my friends and I felt like we had arrived home, rather than arrived at a hotel. Nara from Big Lyna Villa was most friendly and helpful in giving us pointers on transport and food. The place was charming, as were the staff, the rooms were clean and well-maintained. Most of all, we enjoyed chilling on the big balcony where Nara served us coffee in the morning. All in all, it was one of my best travel experiences and I will certainly recommend Big Lyna Villa!"

Mr. Kristin G. on 09/01/2007
"We received a room with no air con and no hot water when we'd reserved a room with both, and our room was right next to the staff work area which got really noisy in the early hours. But without our even asking, the Hotel dropped a significant amount from the daily room rate (presumeably because of the lack of aircon and HW). The staff were very friendly, ever ready with a wonderful smile and salutation. The hotel was beautiful and kept clean."
Mr. matthew f. - Thailand on 04/01/2007
