Siem Reap Accommodation Garden Village Guesthouse Sustainability

Your Host

Garden Village Guesthouse is owned and managed by a local Cambodian family. We're originally from a fishing village about 30km from Siem Reap. We are a local community business that is run by a very experienced travel guide.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

Local employment and community projects

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

Garden Village Guesthouse provides information about a range of local community projects and special rates for long term volunteers are available on request. Thus, it is a great place to find information about volunteer opportunities and meet up with likeminded travellers.

I did not get the impression that this so called "guesthouse" even knows what sustainability is. So, no, I do not think they "care for the destination". I think all they care about it taking western tourists' money.

I was informed that many of the children working at this accomodation were sleeping in rather dismal quarters.... shouldn't these children be in school? and living in an improved environment fostering growth and self-reliance?

I have heard of the cambodian government using tourist dollars for their own corrupt activities.... whether or not this is true, although I am sure there is a certain level of it occuring, I would hope that my money carefully spent should not encourage/endorse such practices.
