As all communities around the Great Tonle Sap lake, the fishing community of Kompong Khleang undergoes dramatic and continual changes due to the seasonal flood levels caused by the reverse flow of the Tonle Sap river. Houses are built on stilts up to 10 metres high, and the village is surrounded by flooded forest.
Excursions are adapted to this changing environment depending on lake levels and you will learn about the activities of local fishermen, unique human adaptations, and, not least, the amazing ecosystem of the Tonle Sap lake. During your stay, you will have the chance to observe the daily village life with visits to the local market, the pagoda and the school.
By extending your Kompong Khleang tour with a relaxing overnight trip you will get the chance to imerse yourself in the experience of spending the night in a local house in this fishing community and share the daily life of your host family and learn how to cook a Cambodian meal.
Excursions around the villages allow you to meet local people, take a motor boat (year round) or paddle boat (seasonal) to visit the village market, school and pagoda, discover the flooded forest (also seasonal), and admire the sunset and sunrise from shore of the Tonle Sap Lake
