Your Hosts

The Paul Dubrule Hotel & Tourism School welcomes guests and supporters of the school to stay in their carefully appointed guest rooms. Only a few rooms are available but guests are welcome to encourage us and provide opportunities for training by staying at Paul Dubrule. Guest/student interaction is very important in the training programs and guests have full access to the school training restaurant. The school also has 24-hour security.

Paul Dubrule strongly believes that training and qualifications are the key to the future of each individual who can access them. In order to provide young Cambodians the opportunity to train in the skills of the hotel, restaurant and tourism industry, $1.3 million was spent to build a fully equipped, state-of-the-art training school.

Opening with full enrolment in October 2003, the school offers 5 certificate programs:

- Cooking and Cuisines
- Restaurant and Bar
- Front Office and Reception
- Housekeeping and Laundry
- Travel and Tourism Industry Services.

To reinforce practical and theoretical training, the school combines typical elements of a functional hotel with that of a college. There are eight theory classrooms equipped with audiovisual aids and practice facilities include a mock-up hotel front office, lobby area and three mock-up guestrooms for accommodation training.

The school simulates a true hotel environment by having a laundry and linen room and meeting rooms. It also includes fully equipped training kitchens, a 100-seater restaurant, a bar and a terrace overlooking the central garden. The students are taught by qualified and experienced teachers selected from France and other areas of Europe.

The school offers recruitment services to match employers with enrolled students who also take a career preparation program to help them prepare and apply for work within the industry.

Caring for destination
This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Facilitating scholarship programs for underprivileged young Cambodian students wishing to enter the hospitality industry.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
Paul Dubrule inaugurated the school on October the 24th, 2002 at the end of an eight month long bicycle trip from Fontainebleau, France to Siem Reap, Cambodia. As co-founder of the Accor Hotel Group, Mr. Dubrule believes that excellent training and stringent qualifications are the key to the future of young Cambodians striving to contribute to a sustainable economy via tourism in their country.

The aim of Ecole Paul Dubrule is to prepare its students for a dynamic career in the hospitality and tourism industry by providing an appropriate curriculum, adapted to international standards, under the watchful tutelage of trained hotelier / restaurateur / culinary hospitality professionals. Located in Siem Reap, in the province of Angkor, near the temples of Angkor Wat, the school is professionally equipped to offer its students a realistic working restaurant and hotel environment in which to learn and hone their skills.

Due to the great influx of tourists to the historical site of Angkor Wat and elsewhere in Cambodia, employment opportunities for qualified people in the hotel, restaurant and tourism industry are increasing exponentially. This is enabling young people, both male and female, to raise their standard of living.

A large part of Cambodia's institutional infrastructure was destroyed by four decades of civil and international war. In 1979, only 300 qualified teachers remained in the whole of the country. With the Paris Peace Agreements (1991), Cambodia, together with the support of international partners, has put a real emphasis on rebuilding its educational system. Through the Ecole Paul Dubrule, young Cambodians have the opportunity to gain an education which will give them access to well paid jobs, and open up a new world of opportunities.

Since the beginning of the project, a firm commitment has been made to handing over the school to the Cambodian authorities in the medium term. The partners have all agreed that the development stages will be dedicated to identifying and to training Cambodian staff, who will go on to successfully take over key positions such as management and teaching, once the school has reached a satisfactory level of sustainability. In order to succeed, the project leader, Formation et Progrès is working with several partners, each of which contribute their specific expertise.

Currently in its fifth year of operation, the school is composed of three buildings comprising over 2000 square metres which include full professional kitchens, hotel and restaurants open to the public, seminar and catering services, eight classrooms, conference rooms and a full library.

" I didn't get the chance to "fall in love" with the school, partly because I think, the staff was ill-equipped in Guest/ Customer relations. Can I suggest having real HRM staff attend to the guests, and not leave it to the hands of the school administrative personnel? They were not able to show me around to get to know what the school was all about or what Paul Dubrule's vision was. "

" I was terribly disappointed with my stay at the Paul Dubrule School. For one, there was no one manning the Reception Desk when I had arrived from the airport, and for most of the day. When I finally found them, they were clueless regarding my reservation! Please tell the other future guests that the school has no staff on call after 5:30pm, and there are no restaurant, housekeeping nor maintenance services after the staff has gone home. Breakfast is NOT included, by the way. Also, bring a powerful bug repellant -I couldn't sleep knowing I was " sharing " my bedroom with a swarm of " gigantic" mosquitoes!(I have pictures to prove it!)I checked out 1st thing in the morning !"

"we didn't eat in the restaurant and were out from early until mid-evening (when the place only has a security guard) so didn't see many staff but those we did see (the senior staff)were lovely and helful. had everything we needed. comfy and very quiet and peaceful. "

"The hours at the front desk is very limited, from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday thru Friday. It didn't bother us, but it would be great to know it in advance."

"I would like to say that this tourism gives me the boggest surprise during the trip. Both me, Diana and my friend Carissa were so thankful that we have such a 'home' during our stay in Siem Reap. We arrive Siem Reap one day earlier due to my friend's visa issue and we were forced by the taxi driver to stay at a guest house in the town where he says he doesn't know where this school is. I quickly looked for help and make calls to reach the contact person of the booking website Ms Som An and finally we reached Mr. Ratanak and he drove his car to pick us up early in the other morning. When we arrive our room 'Champa' I couldn't describe how happy I was, comparing the one that we stayed on our 1st night with the same price!!! Teacher greets us every morning during breakfast, laundries are nice and clear everyday when delivered (and of course cheap!), baguette tastes awesome which they were made by the students, hopsitality is just the best even better than a 5-star hotel with a touch of home. You will regret if you don't stay with Paul Dubrule."
