Sala Bai Hotel School
Sustainability
Your hosts at Sala Bai are the students who are training at the school. This is truly a unique experience. Not only do you get to meet young Cambodians getting the chance to learn new skills, but by staying with us you are helping to make this training a reality for them. As they come from disadvantaged backgrounds, it is only through schools like this that these students can learn. The students are keen, friendly and ehthusiastic to try out their skills. This will be a memorable part of your visit to Siem Reap.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
Sala Bai Hotel and Restaurant School is a free hospitality training school for underprivileged young, established and run by the French NGO "Agir Pour Le Cambodge."
Sala Bai offers students aged between 17 and 23 years a choice of four training programs: Housekeeping, Kitchen, Restaurant or Reception. Upon completion of the eleven month course, the successful students receive a diploma signed by both Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, and Ministry of Tourism.
Sala Bai opened in October 2002. Each year the school offers around 100 unprivileged students free hospitality education. Upon completion of the course Sala Bai helps each individual student with job placement, and if necessary post training.

on 26 Jan 2010 The hotel is run by a charity, who use it as a base to train 100 disadvantaged youths each year for future careers in the hospitality industry. Par of this is funded by the hotelo and restaurant they run as part of their training.
It works fabulously well and in the five years they have been open every single one of the over 500 students they have trained have secured a job within 3 months of graduating.

on 28 Jun 2009 There is a board on the second floor that shows the operations of the hotel/restaurant, and the trainers are happy to share more details if you ask!

on 10 Jun 2009 The job The Sala Bai school is doing for the training of Cambodian underpriviged children is exceptional.Money spent by travellers either staying or using their dining facilities couldn,t be used in better way to help these great kids.
We also spoke to previous students who were now employed in the hotel and tourist industry. So their training obviously prepares them to successfully move into fulltime employment.
We would recommend the Sala Bai to all.

on 27 Feb 2009 It is a heart-warming setup. The people who run/volunteer in this hotel really care for Cambodia and it's youth. This sort of thing should be set up everywhere. I liked the fact that I had fantastic accommodation without spending $$$$ and was also helping the youth of Siem Reap.
