Clear skies make some beautiful sunrises and sunsets and daytime temperatures are in the mid- to high 30s (°C). It does, however, get hot when exploring the temples, so make sure to wear a hat if you are exposted to much direct sunlight and make sure to drink enough water...!!

Whilst Siem Reap can be visited at any time of year, the best time to visit Cambodia is, arguably, between November and January when there is relatively low humidity, little rain and a cooling breeze that makes travel more comfortable. Clear skies also make ideal settings for spectacular sunrises and sunsets in the Angkor temples. This is, however, also the peak travel season and many of the most popular hotels and guesthouses tend to be booked out quickly so, whilst accommodation is usually available somewhere, it is recommended to book accommodation in advance to secure a room at your preferred hotel or guesthouse.

Siem Reap and Cambodia have two distinct seasons - dry and wet....

Many people also prefer to visit Siem Reap and Cambodia in October, which is the end of the rainy season. During this time, the countryside is lush and green and Angkor Wat is surrounded by lush foliage and the moats are full of water which make some beautiful sights.

You will find far less travellers and if you plan your itinerary right, chances are good to beat the crowds. One of the most popular festivals in Cambodia, Bon Om Touk or the Cambodian Water Festival, also takes place around this time of year . It is celebrated on the full moon of the Buddhist month of Kadeuk (which usually falls in the end of October or November) and there are many celebrations, boat races and fireworks in Siem Reap and the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh. The Water Festival also coincides with the end of the rainy season and reverse flow of the Tonle Sap River.

Travelling off the beaten tracks and to lesser visited areas may, however, sometimes be difficult in the rainy season and is usually reserved for the most adventurous.

In short, the weather in Siem Reap can be divided into two distinct seasons - the rainy season (May - October) and the dry season (November - April). April is the hottest month in Siem Reap where temperatures can tip over 40°C and, thus, makes it important to drink enough water. May and June see rain and high humidity, and  the  wet season lasts until October when moats again are full of water and the countryside lush and green..
